Newborns are clearly a favorite of mine to photograph. I am truly humbled by the number of families who have invited me in to share in such a special monumental time in their lives. This is what keeps me inspired. I never stop looking for unique props – hats, wraps, fabrics and textures. Documenting newborns has become an obsession in my life. I am crazy about the details…probably because I wasn’t a photographer when my children were born and I missed photographing the tiny toes, long lashes, fuzzy shoulders and arms; so I want to be sure to capture them for you.
When should I book the session?
Ideally, newborn sessions are booked before your baby is born! I take only a limited number of newborn sessions at this time so that I may commit the time needed to provide you with images you will cherish for a lifetime. The typical newborn sessions lasts approx 2-2.5 hours, but can be longer or shorter.
How do I book the session?
Because of their unpredictability, I simply write down your due date in my calendar, and reserve a spot for you after you give birth. Most moms simply go ahead and send me a text or email while they are still in the hospital to let me know they’ve given birth and I can plan accordingly. For the moms with scheduled c-sections and inductions, a date can be booked ahead of time.
When do you photograph my newborn?
I prefer do the session when your newborn is between 5 and 10 days old; when they are at their ultimate scrunchiness and sleepiness. Older than this, they tend not to “curl” as much and sleep less. This, and the fact that newborn colic and acne tend to flare by the 2-3 week mark.
Can you come to my home?
I love getting personal, your home, your bedroom, etc, so I do travel. Sometimes when you’re a new parent, it can be overwhelming to pack your newborn up and get yourself ready and travel to a location for a session so soon after having delivered. By traveling to your home, you can be more comfortable and relaxed. Everything I use is easily portable and can be brought to your home for the session. I do also do sessions in my home studio. It is really whatever your preference is. I travel to homes throughout Glynn County; Brunswick, St. Simons Island and Jekyll Island.
What do I need for the session?
Just the baby and anyone or anything else special you want in the photo. I understand what it is like to be home with a newborn. Your job is to focus on your new baby. My job is to capture that new relationship.
