Family beach vacation portrait session

When you're a family photographer and you live in the Golden Isles, there is no shortage of places to choose from for a family beach session, family field session, family downtown session, etc.  So many beautiful, beautiful locations to choose from - it can be so hard sometimes!  I love working with upcoming clients during their pre-session consultation and designing a session at the right location and time that's perfect for them and fits their personality.  Many people love family beach sessions, while others are like "been there, done that" and want to have their family portrait session done in a field or elsewhere.  There is no wrong place to have a family session in the St. Simon's Island/Brunswick area.  I'm telling you!

When Dad called to book this session for his wife as her birthday gift (WOW!), he knew she would want to showcase the beautiful Jekyll Island beaches in their family session portraits.  They also were concerned with booking a full session time versus a petite session time due to having a one-year-old.  They were worried an hour might be too long.  We talked about options and goals and ultimately they decided on a full family session. With my approach to photography, sessions are less like work, and more like a game.  We pretty much let the littles rule how the session will go and what we will do and when.  Does that sound scary or what?!  But it's not.  If they need a little free time to expend a little energy - we let them play.  If they are a little cranky or fussy and just need to be held and snuggled - well we let them do that as well.  It's a simple as that.  I love just capturing what is and what happens with a family during their session.

At the end of the session Dad told me "I think that has got to be the easiest photo session we've ever done - thank you for being so easy to work with!".   Of course, I'm just grinning ear to ear because he completely made my day with his comment.  THAT is what I aim to do with all family sessions.  I don't want it to be stressful.  I want it to be fun, to be quick, to be perfectly imperfect. 

It was very hard narrowing down which photos I wanted to share.  So beware the long post ahead!

As you can see, I was able to get this family a huge variety of images for their family session gallery.  And little Miss sunshine here did wonderful the whole time.  Couldn't have asked for a sweeter baby or sweeter family to work with.  These portraits are going to look absolutely gorgeous up on their walls and in their portrait album!
