Jekyll Island Beach Session at Driftwood Beach | Jekyll Island Photographer

Being a Jekyll Island Photographer who photographs on the Jekyll beaches, I will readily admit that Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island is my most favorite beach of any that the Golden Isles has to offer. Sea Island beaches are a close second, followed by St. Simons Island beaches.

Driftwood beach at sunset is one of the most beautiful beaches to have family portraits taken. That soft, golden light just glows and provides the most flattering light of any beach light I’ve seen. The soft greens of the palm trees and marsh grass, the magnificent trees strewn about the beach, and the soft sandy trails…there’s just nothing that compares. It provides the perfect backdrop to a wide variety in a gallery for my clients.

As you can see, a sunny day at the beach provides the most beautiful, soft lighting for a sunset portrait session. You probably also noticed some of the silliness that happens during our time together on the beach! I typically start out with what I call “formal” portraits. Those are done when everyone is fresh and we try to get everyone looking and smiling at the camera. As we progress into the session, we play games, we run, we hug and tickles and generally the kids just have a blast while being photographed!

All portrait sessions include a consultation where we discuss ideas, styling/wardrobe, locations, etc. This helps me to customize the session for YOUR family. Because each family is unique! Signature Session clients have full use of the studio’s extensive wardrobe for mamas, babies/children and we even have a few pieces for dads! We helped mama find the perfect dress for her session and then helped her to choose outfits from the wardrobe for each of the boys to wear that would coordinate with the colors perfectly. We also wanted to be sure to incorporate the warm golds, soft greens and light sand of Driftwood Beach when we put together her wardrobe. It’s all about the details, y’all!

Prior to the session, mama met us at the studio for some pampering by our fabulous HMUA Rachel Raines who chatted with the client to create the perfect look for her hair and makeup. Then it was off to Driftwood Beach to meet the boys for the session where you can see just how much fun we had.

The family and I got together once more after their session to view their portraits that we created and we worked together to figure out how they wanted to enjoy their portraits. We ended up framing one of the family portraits into a 20×30 custom frame and then creating a beautiful album from some of their other favorites from their session. I cannot wait for it to be delivered!
